Afro Visionary Movie Nights (AVMN) is a curated community screening platform celebrating African and Black cinema, filmmakers and stories through film screenings, creative conversations, music and cultural exchange. Created to centre the Black Gaze and create meaningful spaces for audiences and creatives to connect, AVMN showcases bold, thought-provoking work while providing opportunities for emerging filmmakers and creative practitioners to engage, learn and build community.

SAT 29 Aug 7:30pm BOOK NOW. This month, we’re celebrating queer voices and stories with a special screening of Still My Child, a powerful new documentary by acclaimed journalist and filmmaker Carl Collison. Through the intimate stories of three South African fathers, Still My Child explores the journey from expectation and uncertainty to understanding, acceptance and unconditional love for their transgender children. It’s a deeply human story about family, identity and the transformative power of love.
Each evening concludes with a DJ-led afterparty, transforming the screening into a vibrant social and cultural exchange where audiences, filmmakers and creatives can connect, celebrate and share in the music and culture that surrounds the films. The programme brings cinema beyond traditional theatre spaces and into universities, cultural venues and communities across South Africa, with a vision to grow a national network of audiences, artists and storytellers.
